BRAGPOCHE no. 2 (Cave on)
28.858300,83.852800
Description
The most inviting black spot of Bragpoche mountain lures at about 4550 m asl (barometric) and lies in the same gully as –>Bragpoche Cave No. 1 but some 30 m higher up. The 17 m wide and on average 5 m high cave entrance --shaded day in, day out-- leads to a 20 m long, inclined cave passage which descends towards the cave entrance by angles ranging between 40 and 44° from the north-east. Dissolution features are completely absent. The cave is developed along steeply inclined and slightly water bearing strata of thinly bedded Jurassic (Rhät) limestone which disintegrates due to almost daily freezing and thawing events when warm air is trapped during the day and taken by falling winds in the night. Flash-flood events, avalanches, and watery landslides contribute mechanically to the cave development by removing debris originating from frost shattering and / or gravitational decay.
