Description

The firm Sims Salt Pipes (simssaltpipes.co.uk accessed 2013.07.17) … claims to have obtained salt from a Himalayan cave (Oldham, Tony 2013.07.17 e-mail) which, however, is neither a -cave- in salt or a cave that contains salt nor in the Himalaya but a deception instead of a reference to salt mine in the Salt Range at the village of Khewra (Jhelum District). IDENTITY: Tony Oldham, Cwm Parc, Treorchy, had … contacted the website and the reply was that these are not caves but mines (Oldham, T 2013.07.17 e-mail) and … are called the Khewra Salt Mines … (Sims, Tony 2013.07.18 e-mail). SITUATION 2013: … in Pakistan and about 300 kilometers from the Himalayas (Sims, Tony 2013.07.18 e-mail). SITUATION 1908: Mayo Mine.-- Salt mine in the Pind Dadan Khan tahsil of Jhelum District, situated in 32° 39' N. and 73° 3' E. The mine lies in the Salt Range at the village of Khewra [note 1], 5 1/2 miles [9 km] north-east of the town of Pind Dadan Khan [note 2]; and the mineral occurs in vast quantites, the deposits extending towards the summit of the hill above the village (1.650 feet [503 m] above sea-level) and going down to a great depth below the present floor-level of the mine (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1906-1919, 17: 240-241). CULTURAL HISTORY - human use: If you look at the Dr Oz video on my web site, he uses the same pipe and salt that I market and describes it as Himalayan [note 3]. It's probably just known as Himalayan salt but your quite right, there is no salt mine actually in the mountain range itself (Sims, Tony 2013.07.18 e-mail).es, the deposits extending towards the summit of the hill above the village (1.650 feet [503 m] above sea-level) and going down to a great depth below the present floor-level of the mine (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1906-1919, 17: 240-241).
