Description
A modified natural temple cave in limestone is said (Breitenbach 2005.12.01 Mss) to contain not only a small stream a small shrine sacred to Gupteshwar (Sanskrit, etc. = Hidden Lord, an epithet of Shiva) and stalactites (venerable linga and hence stalagmite speleothems). SITUATION: North-west of Jakh (at 1479 m asl, Breitenbach 2005.11.03, electronic Eschenbach altimeter) and an estimated 500 or 800 m steeply uphill (note 1) to an elevation above 1750 m asl (Breitenbach 2006.03.21 personal communication). Breitenbach (2005.12.01 Mss): The area is cultivated (grassing). The whole region shows a huge limestone plateau and the must be potential for caves. EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2005.1031: Sebastian F. M. Breitenbach (2005.12.01 Mss: Bericht), in company with certain Deewan or Divan (driver) and guided by unidentified local guides modified his initial impulse to visit this item when after going 300 m higher in the very steep cliff, we skipped this trip because of lack of time (note 2).
