Location
Mutanda zone, Buzi district, Sofala province. GPS (WGS84) S 19°55'02,2" / E 34°04'06,2", ca. 110 m asl. Surveyed on 10 Sept. 1999 by Michael Laumanns (BCRA-Grade 2a). Length: 53,00 m. Vertical range: -4,5 m. ml Access to the cave is made from the village of the Rego of the Mutanda area. From there the cliff in the N of the village has to be ascended (footpath). The cave entrance is a collapse doline with a 4.5 m deep descent (ladder), situated about 1 km N of the cliff on the plateau.
Description
Narrow phreatic galleries lead to the E while chambers with Solution cupolas can be found to the W and S of the entrance pothole, Some metres to the north another roof collapse of 3,5 m depth (climbable) leads down to a small chamber which is connected (not traversable without digging) to the main cave. - A considerable bat colony (about 500 bats, species not determined) is living in the cave. No conglomerate infillings are present.
