Description
NOTE 1: Drummondganj 24°53'N: 82°10'E on AMS sheet NG44-15 Rewa (U502 series, 1959 edition) about 59 km along the road south-west of Mirzapur (25°09'N: 82°35'E), is erronously indicated as»Doummondganj« (sic!) on the India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006: 57 E1).
A series of »rock shelters« (possibly true caves regarded as shelters because stone age man should have taken shelter there) are situated the top of an unspecified hill (no name mentioned) somewhere above the village of Drummondganj (note 1). ARCHAEOLOGY: Not one single rock shelter was found to be occupied by Acheulian or the Middle Palaeolithic man though the foot and gentle slope of the hills in the »Drummondganj« area of Mirzapur district retained a good number of tool manufacturing sites (JAYASWAL, V 1995: 44; PANT 1982: 54; SHARMA 1973).
