Description
On a tour along the –>Kishanganga (Kishan Ganga) Major N. N. Thomas (note 1) came across an unspecified cave (item no. IV) situated »just below the bridge crossing the Kishanganga River about 3 miles below Bagtor. Sheet 43 J/10.« SITUATION: Presuming »below« means downstream, the path from Bagtor (N34°41': E074°41': 7'500 feet = 2286 m asl) is shown on AMS sheet NI43-06 Srinagar, U502 series 1959 edition) to run northwards above the left (locally west) bank of the Kishanganga. The modern road, however, is shown in the India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006: 2 B2) above the east bank. At a travelling distance of »about 3 miles« (5 or 6 km) »below« (downstream from = north of) Bagtor, the Kishanganga takes near the village of Taobat (N34°42'30”: E074°43': 2250 m asl) the Chhatri Nar from the right (east) and turns left (west). Both the path (AMS sheet, 1959) and the road (India Road Atlas, Eicher Goodearth 2006) cross the Kishanganga in the vicinity of the confluence.
