Description
An unspecified »cave« or rock shelter (no name mentioned) of archaeological interest is »concealed within a huge boulder« and located at a travelling distance of »26 miles out of Bangalore by the side of the road to Mysore contains large bars of iron, and was indubitably of ceremonial importance. My informant, Dr. C. V. Natarajan, pointed out the actual boulder, but I have not explored the cave, nor found it described anywhere« (KOSAMBI 1962 edited 1983, 1992: 19-20, 51 note 9; 1965 revised 1975 edited 1985, 1988, 1990, 1991a, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1998). SITUATION: »Mile 26« (kilometre 42] on the road from Bangalore (N12°59': E77°35') approximately south-west towards Mysore (12°18'26”N: 76°38'59”E) appears to lie somewhere in the area »short of« (2 km north-east from) Ramanagaram (N12°43': E77°18').
