NONGJRI CHIGNAP

Description
A considerable stream (estimated flow 100 ltr/sec on 15th Feb. 2003) arrives from a sandstone catchment area in the approximate north and disappears into limestone boulders at the bottom end of an incised dead valley (ca. 50 m deep). SITUATION: Noisy waters announce even near the end of the dry season an obvious valley, which lies at a travelling distance of 8 km from Khanjoy (N25°13'30”: E91°03'40” WGS84), below a wide curve to the left (note 1), and on the left-hand side of the road to Nongjri (note 2). CAVE DESCRIPTION: Wriggling between clean washed boulders leads to estimated 20 m of walking passage and another 60 m of belly bouldering to a densely packed boulder blockage. This was found to be apparently impenetrable (note 3). CAVE POTENTIAL: According to Pindro Dakhar, Nongjri Village Headman (2003.02.13 personal communication), one man got lost inside for one week.A considerable stream (estimated flow 100 ltr/sec on 15th Feb. 2003) arrives from a sandstone catchment area in the approximate north and disappears into limestone boulders at the bottom end of an incised dead valley (ca. 50 m deep).
