Description
One of altogether four and possibly fabricated »caves of Kurnool district« (note 1) which MALAYANDI (1982: 27) not only declares to have been »recently discovered« by a certain »saddhu from Kerala living in Kurnool« but also desires to contain »some of the most ancient rock paintings ever found anywhere in the world in the caves of Kurnool district« and that's it. IDENTITY: The strange Pedda Siddhulu or »Peddasiddhulu« (MALAYANDI 1982: 27) is possibly only another name for –>Pedda Ahobilam. ETYMOLOGY: The Telugu "pedda" translates as »high, great, important« and "siddhulu" (Tamil, plural) are sourcerers as the Sanskrit "siddha" (plural: siddhi) are supernatural abilities. SITUATION: MALAYANDI (1982: 27) places both »Chinna Siddhulu« and »Peddasiddhulu« or –>Pedda Siddhulu at an unspecified location somewhere in the Nandyal taluk (note 2).
NOTE 1: The four »caves of Kurnool district« (MALAYANDI 1982: 27) are –>Chinna Siddhulu, »Peddasiddhulu« (i.e. Pedda Siddhulu), »Siddhulaguha in Kethavaram of Kurnool Taluk« (i.e. –>Siddhula Guha, Kurnool), and »Siddhulagutta of Dhone taluk« (–>Siddhula Guha, Dhone). NOTE 2: Nandyal taluk (between N15°21': E78°00' and N15°42': E78°47') covers only an area of 854 square miles (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1907-1909, 18: 363) or about 2212 square kilometres.
