Description
(West province, Virunga mountains, Rubavu district) Co-ordinates: S 01"38°44.7’’; E 029°22°52.1”. Alt. ca. 2,302 m. Explored by the 2004 international expedition to NW Rwanda. The large entrance to Ubuvumo Kabari opens immediately near the tarred main road between Ruhengeri and Gisenyi. The cave starts with a complex chamber filled with massive boulder but it soon continues in a tube with a floor often made up of solid lava. After having by-passed a 4 m deep drop to the left one can continue in a small tube with nice lava flow forms that was not pushed to its final limit. The aforementioned drop leads to a succession of chambers with much breakdown that re-connects to the main passage. A small waterfall enters the cave in one of these chambers from the roof during wet weather. Description according to Laumanns et al. (2005, 2007).
