Description
What appears to represent a karst spring (diving spot?) in the vicinity of Kutas (note 1) in the Salt Range (note 2) is reputed to rise from a great depth: Kuttahss is a fountain rising from a cleft in the limestone rock, and flowing from thence eastward [better: east-northeast] down valley of the tableland [of the Rakh Diwan Reserve Forest]. It is said to be one of the eyes of the world and to be quite unfathomable, until a scientific gentleman the other day plumbed it with a few fathoms of line [note 3] (ABBOTT, J 1853: 247 note †). IDENTITY: South of Waula (N32°43': E72°54'), say 5 km or so east-southeast of Kutas, a blue spot (spring) is indicated on AMS sheet NI43-13 Sargodha (U502 series, 1959 edition).
