Description
An unidentified sacred cave (note 1) or rock shelter (temple cave), which is associated with Smashaneshvar Bhairab (Smashaneshwar Bhairav), is reputed to lie near the hermitage of Parasuram (ATKINSON 1882 vol. 11 edited 1991, 2: 347 after the 'ancient' (medieval?) Kedara Khanda, a Sanskrit geography claiming to be part of the Skanda Purana). SITUATION: Somewhere north of one stream Koteshvar (Kateshvar, Kateshwar, Koteshwar), a tributary to the Alaknanda in the vicinity of Srinagar (Garhwal).
NOTE 1: Smashaneshwar Muni Gufa (ATKINSON 1882) is possibly the same as the –>Koteshvar Cave (Rudraprayag) in the Alaknanda River valley.
