Description
A relatively small sized, man-made cave cut from the river terrace conglomerate. SITUATION: On the outskirts of Larjung, in the cliff to the south of the gompa and straight east from the southern end of the village. CULTURAL HISTORY: Certain ceremonies of the 12-year festival Lha Phewa take place in the site (VINDING 1992: 38sqq., 51): From the second day of the 1981 festival onward 4 priests of the four thakali clans and the virgin boys spend their night there. Between the fifth and 9th day foodstuff and 108 butterlamps were offered to the clan gods at noon. On the tenth day the priest and the virgin boys left the cave. The Lha Phewa festival has a prelude, namely the Soi Soi Lawa (21st to 25th march 1977). In the evening of the second day the clan histories were recited in the Pyung Kyu U and the priests spent the third and the fourth day in the cave relaxing and in the afternoon reciting the clan histories.
