Description
A series of caves (CEYLON TRAVELLER 1974, 1983: 112) or modified natural rock shelters with white plastered walls known as Maradiya (note 1) are situated on the –>Dimbulagala: Two are better preserved and contain paintings [rock art] which once covered the whole plastered surface. On the summit and within the caves are two pools of clear water. In two other caves the paintings are in a bad state, but the bold outlines are clear. One such imposing rock formation allowed the wattle and daub walls to be built dividing the cave into many rooms including a little verandah as well.
