Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A south-facing cave entrance in limestone gives access to 12.4 m of initially walking-sizeed rift cave passages (note 1) leading to impenetrable fissures. SITUATION: Due north and some 250 m vertically above Lower (New / Naya) Pisang (N28°37': E84°09') at 3150 m asl (barometric). CAVE DESCRIPTION: The cave is guided a pair of of more or less parallel tectonical disturbances which dip along a north-south running thrust by some 70° to about 90° (east) . The rock surfaces are frost shattered and structured by protruding bands of arenaceous (sandy) and rhythmically deposited mudstone which dips by about 55° to approximately 220°. CAVE CONTENTS: Traces of phytokarst, some box work, cauliflower stalagmites (botryoidal speleothems), ferns. The cave is generally dry but little moisture oozes from the main joints. The floor is covered with dusty sand. A few angular, frost shattered (limestone-) rocks lie around. In front of the cave and a little east of the entrance is a terrace (about 2 mwide and 10 m long) of limited archaeological interest.wide and 10 m long) of limited archaeological interest.
