Description
One of the very few cases of a true fossil cave (note 1), which, according to legend, became solidly choked when a dragon, just at the very act of entering, turned into green coloured stone. The pointed tail of the metamorphosed dragon (a palaeokarst infilling of a fossil cave) was indicated to Hajee (Haji) Abdun NUBEE (1844a: 677) at a place called the Hadjee Kaur, or Dragon's ravine [note 2], so called from a dragon that infected it, until Malik Dewar, a famous Baloch saint, whose tomb is at Washuk [note 3], converted it by his curse into a stone just as it was retiring into its cave. A green coloured stone is still pointed out with awe and reverence by the Balochees as the tip of the dragon's tail. SITUATION: At a distance of 6 kos (15 or 30 km, note 4) in an unspecified direction from Panjgur. NUBEE (1844) reached the site from Chok-i-Gazo by marching 7 kos to a spring called Chakul-i- Kondai (note 5) and 4 kos to a pool called Mazar-aph (note 6), then 5 kos to a defile calledTang (tang means defile), 2 kos to a narrow pass Muradee Gwarjon (note 7) and, finally, 10 kos to the Dragon's Ravine … From the pools in this ravine we filled our masheks, or water bags, as there was no water to be expected at the stage which has not even a name, not being a fixed one. The mat flag is plentiful in the Kaur. Proceeded 6 kos between hills to Panjgoor [note 8], which I should say bears direct S.W. from Washuk (note 3 again). One of the very few cases of a true fossil cave (note 1), which, according to legend, became solidly choked when a dragon, just at the very act of entering, turned into green coloured stone.
