Sort of mine (HOOPER 1903) or, perhaps, a modified natural cave. ETYMOLOGY: The narrow gallery forming the mine is called -Ragh,- a vein of the hill (HOOPER 1903). SITUATION: The entrace of the -mine- near Tango lies not only exactly somewhere at the foot of [an unidentified] the hill and on the bank of [an unidentified] a river (HOOPER 1903) but also without identified spatial relation to a place called Tango (note 1) and at a travelling distance of 40 miles (about 65 km) along a route in an unspecified direction from Nargana (note 2). DESCRIPTION: The entrance to the mine is an opening about a yard wide leading into a gallery of unknown length (HOOPER 1903). CULTURAL HISTORY - Melanterite / sulphate of iron mining: The inhabitants say that after a rainfall pure white Zagh [note 3] -bursts out- in the mine which in the dry weather is dug out together with the decomposed slate. The mine has a disagreeable corrosive smell -like iron rust,- and this causes the workmen to vomit in the corse of half an hour (HOOPER 1903).rse of half an hour (HOOPER 1903).
