Description
»World famed Maharishi Dyanpith is high above Vedniketan in a most idyllic mountain environment, having 84 caves [note 1]. A unique [more likely: commercial] underground yoga training centre has been created that attracts transcendentalists from the world over« (KAUR, J 1985: 187). ETYMOLOGY: "Dyan" (KAUR, J 1985: 187), from "dhyan" (Sanskrit, Hindi, Nepali, etc.), meditation, contemplation. CAVE POTENTIAL: Other troglodyte hermitage "caves" of dubious nature in the vicinity of Rishikesh are the cave at –>Brahmapuri (Eliade 1996: 343), –>Ganesh Gufa (the cave of Rose Schmitt), the cave of Swami –>Ramtirtha, the caves at –>Rishikesh (Eliade 1996: 344-345), and at –>Rishikesh (Eliade 1996: 347).
