NOTE 1: »Brang River« (LAWRENCE 1895 / 1967: 22-23) or »Bringi River« (COWARD 1971d; WALTHAM, A C 1971b: 25; WALTHAM, J M 1971a: 11) and »Bringhi« (STRASSER 1993: 343) is indicated as »Bring« on AMS sheet NI43-11 Anantnag (U502 series, 1960 edition) and joins near N33°37.5': E075°15' the Jhelum River. NOTE 2: »Devalgam« (LAWRENCE 1895 / 1967: 22-23; GERVIS 1954: 120) or »Wani Divalgam« (STRASSER 1993: 343) is neither shown on AMS sheet NI43-11 (1960) nor listed on nima.mil/geonames (accessed 16.11.2003). NOTE 3: STRASSER (1993: 343) was told that the –>Achhabal Spring is »die Wiedererscheinung des Flußes Bringhi [Bringi] sein soll, dessen Wasser durch einen breiten Spalt unterhalb eines Hügels beim Dorf Wani Divalgam im Pargana Brang versickert« (the reputed resurgence of the river »Bringhi« (Bring), the waters of which sink into a broad gap below a hill near the village of Wani Divalgam in the Brang pargana). NOTE 4: »Adigam« (COWARD 1971d: 34-36; WALTHAM, A C 1971b: 25; WALTHAM, J M 1971a: 11) may correspond (COWARD 1971d: 32 figure 6 location map) with the Argom marked on AMS sheet NI43-11 near N33°35'45": E075°18'30" above the right (northern) bank of the Bring River.
Waters of the Bring River (note 1) are reported to sink and disappear at Devalgam (note 2) into limestone fissures, at Wani Divalgam (note 3) into one wide rift, or at Adigam (note 4) into impenetrable rifts through bedding planes which are supposed to contain numerous »subterranean channels« (geo-engineerese speak for conduits). The sink feeds the karst spring –>Achhibal. At Adigam, a positive dye test with Rhodamine B proved on 9th September 1970 a rapid flow (less than two days) over 240 vertical metres to the "Achhalbal" (sic! for: Achhibal) resurgence springs (COWARD 1971d: 36-37; WALTHAM, A.C. 1971b: 25; WALTHAM, J.M. 1971a: 11). CAVE POTENTIAL: »It is quite probable that large vadose stream ways exist under these ridges, though the problems of entry seem to be great [WALTHAM, A.C. 1971b: 25].« CAVE CLIMATE: COWARD (1971d: 35 table 2) measured a water temperature of 19°C at 14h in late September or early October 1970.
