Description
A rock art site (cave or rock shelter) called »Gomunwa« (note 1), which contains paintings (rock art) in red pigment (COCKBURN, J 1883b: 126). SITUATION: Somewhere (note 2) in the vicinity of »Bijaygarh Fort« (note 3).
NOTE 1: »Gomunwa« (COCKBURN, J 1883b: 126) is not identified as no such place is marked in the vicinity of Bijaigarh Fort (24°34'40'N': 83°11'00'E': 576 m asl) on the Survey of India 1: 50'000 toposheet 63-P/02 (edition 1971). NOTE 2: GLENNIE, E A (1959) had recorded »Gomunwa« as a site of prehistoric importance near »Bijaigarh Fort« (garh means fort), which, however, he confused with an other Bijaigarh (25°08'N: 82°24'E) or Fort Victoria, about 5 km west of Mirzapur town (25°09'N: 82°35'E).
