Shiva (Cave of)

A modified natural sacred cave (temple cave) dedicated to Shiva is exploited as a religious show cave formed in Precambrian limestone near one village of Bhuligawan or Bhaligaon (note 2), lies in the vicinity of a GPS position that needs interpretation (note 1). CAVE DESCRIPTION: At a vertical range of about 20 m, the cave is estimated 100 m long and contains lots of breakdown, many speleothems (flowstone, less than 20 cm high stalagmites), unspecified sediment on the floor, roots penetrating the cave ceiling, a convenient flight of descending concrete steps and -- since entering the sanctuary barefooted is compulsory -- simply too many dangerous steel wires for crippled Europeans depending on a pair of prothesis to perform the art of walking around (note 3). PROSPECTS: There is a doline in front of the cave and another hole (after Breitenbach 2005.12.01 Mss: Bericht). VEGETATION: Terraces of paddy fields (wet rice cultivation) and shrubs. CAVE LIFE: Breitenbach (2005.10.31 Mss: Tagebch, 2005.12.01 Mss: Bericht) observed not only the day roost of relatively large bats (Chiroptera) of unidentified size but also saw in an unspecified hole somewhere in front of the cave, a relatively big (diameter about 10 cm) spider (Arachnidae: Aranea: Sparassidae: conf.
