A magnificent puckha Bowlie (HERVEY 1853, 1: 452) or baoli (step well). SITUATION: In one way or another just outside the walls enclosing what was recorded as the Motee-Doongree Bagh, or gardens belonging to the Rajah of Alwur or Alwar (note 1). DESCRIPTION: The magnificent puckha Bowlie [note 2] … is on an extensive scale, and though a constant drain is kept on the water, there has been no apparent diminuation as yet. EXPLORATION HISTORY: 1850.12.27: Mrs. Hervey, then accompanied by a certain W– (HERVEY 1853, 1: 444), first went on 27th December, 1850. Friday … to the 'Motee-Doongree Bagh,' or gardens belonging to the Rajah of Alwur. They are so called after a neighbouring hill, 'Mootee-Doongree' signifying 'Mount Pearl' … After leaving the gardens, we inspected a magnificent puckha Bowlie (HERVEY 1853, 1: 452).
