Description
From unspecified locations somewhere at Surat (N21°10': E72°50') reported FRYER (1675.09.22 Mss, published 1698 II.ii, edited 1873: 298-299, 365) an unidentified stepwell: Grottoes descending also under Ground by huge Arches and Stone Steps shadded by Trees on each hand, till it come to the deep Well at bottom, from whence by Leathern Bags drawn upon Wheels by Oxen, the Water is carried up, and in Gutters streams about the Gardens.
