Tham Ruesi [KA0411]
14.778318,98.874156
Location
The cave is on the western side of the east tower, at the summit of the obvious limestone mountain to the north of the Tham Sao Hin Sink. There are two possible approach routes: a) Drive from Ban Phu Toei, across the fields to the farthest point possible overlooking the Khlong Ngu valley. Take the path leading to the river sink, but walk across the broad, flat area lying directly over Tham Sao Hin. Take a path straight up the steep hill in front. Total vertical ascent/descent: 1,300 m in 6 km. b) From the entrance to Tham Sao Hin walk up the shallow valley to the north. Bear west across the flat area for 200 m and take the same path straight up the steep hill. Total vertical ascent/descent 1,000 m in 3 km.
Description
Basically a large rock shelter, an ancient remnant of a cave and much modified by large speleothems and breakdown. Daylight penetrates most of the cave. A steep slope heads down into the cave from the 25 m wide entrance. Heading up and over a pile of breakdown leads to a small chamber that is choked with speleothems. This is the end of the cave at a depth of 16m. Various holes between boulders in the floor of the cave can be explored, but none go very far.
