SINGYE DZONG PHUG, Lodrak

Location

An unspecified number of »alcove type caves« (YONGE 1995: 195) or rock shelters at »Sengye Dzong« (or so) are used as troglodyte meditation retreats. SITUATION: At the monastery of Senge Dzong (note 1) or »Seng-ge rDzong« (LAUF 1975: 73), »Sengye Dzong« (YONGE 1993: 195), Singya Dzong and Singbi Dzong in the Lodrak (Lho-brag) valley (LAUF 1975: 73) in the northernmost part of Bhutan and close to the Tibetan border. CULTURAL HISTORY: LAUF (1975: 73) provides less cursory information on the modified natural troglodyte rock chambers and shelters of sNa rings Brag phug: The Tertön (gTer ston, Treasure Finder) Padmalingpa (Padma Lingpa,Padma gling-pa, circa 1450*-1513) discovered in 1476 and again in 1487 sacred texts (gTer-ma) of the U-rgya zab-ter and U-rgyan thugs-ter groups, written in the secret Dakini script (mKha'.'gro yi-ge) in the cave sNa-rings Brag Phug near the monastery Senge Dzong (Seng-ge rDzong) in the Lodrak valley (Lho-brag-chu) in the northernmost part of Bhutan, on the Tibetan border.
