Description
»The limestone hills on the Gyaing-Ataran plains contain numerous caves, the best known being the Karonku caves, about 11 km from Moulmein [97°38'E : 16°29'N], which are said to have afforded shelter in olden times to the Talaing inhabitants when fleeing from the cruelties of the Burmese« (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1907-1909, 5: 296).
