Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A circular cave entrance (pothole, about 2 m wide) drops 6 m to the floor (submerged below seawater to at least 0.6 m or more —depending on the tide) of a horizontal rift passage that opens towards the sea. The horizontal, south-west (225°) facing rift passage, initially unroofed and up to 4 m wide, narrows down after some 5 or 8 m to a triangular cave entrance (up to 0.8 m wide and 3.5 m high) leading to estimated 7 m of horizontal rift passage (water filled depending on tide) to a terminal, somewhat roundish chamber (on an intersection of vertical joints) lit by a daylight window (about 2 m in diameter) estimated 5 m above. The cave is developed in metamorphosed and quartzite veined Proterozoic (Purana) Limestone, which locally dips by about 20° to approximate south. SITUATION: Accessible during low tide only. About 1.5 or 2 km on foot from Querim Beach (N15°42'30”: E073°41'00” ±100 m, estimated WGS84) and 200 m in a direct line south-southeast from Querim Cave 1 and Querim Cave2. The ceiling window (a pothole entrance) lies a few metres west and below the footpath from the northern edge of Arambol north along the escarpment of the west-facing hill-side towards Querim Beach.
