Among the several caves and cave temples (CEYLON TRAVELLER 1974: 253; 1983: 255) in the area south of the road from Beragala generally eastwards via Wellawaya and Buttala to Monaragala (note 1), are the ruins of a cave vihara at Budugalge, which appears to have been used for religious, troglodyte monastic purposes. Compare the so-called –>Okkampitiya Cave (Brooks 1995 Mss). SITUATION: Budugalge (note 2) is not indicated on the -Sri Lanka Road Map- (Survey Department 1977). APPROACH (CEYLON TRAVELLER 1974: 253; 1983: 255): Budugalge is reached by turning south (note 3) at Kumbukanna (N06°48': E081°18'), which lies about half way between Wellawaya and Monaragala, and by proceeding for about five miles (8 km) to the end of the road.
