Description
A circular, cliff-walled doline (closed depression), about 30 m in diameter and an estimated 8 m deep, contains not only the locally usual assemblage of -jungle- (vegetation) in bottom but also a local variety of the usually choked sink in one corner, which -- the choke -- was on the spot identified as a relatively very long term dig (Jarratt, A R 2002.02.18 Mss: Krem Shynrang Thloo 2). ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for what Anthony 'Tony' R Jarratt simply christened Krem Shynrang Thloo 2 because he had recorded two hours earlier and somewhere else a GPS position for a so-called Krem Shynrang Thloo (Jarratt, A R 2002.02.18 Mss -Krem Shynrang Thloo 1- 18/2/02 13h05; Jarratt, A R 2002.02.18 Mss -Krem Shynrang Thloo 2- 18/2/02 15h10). SITUATION: In an unidentified setting at an unspecified location (note 1). APPROACH: In February 2002 easiest by steep path up from the junction of the limekiln / Lumshnong / Umlong village paths (nearKrem Matom) to plantation with small sand quarry and old, partly filled coal shaft. Situated in jungle just beyond (Jarratt, A R 2002.02.18 Mss; Krem Shynrang Thloo 2). CAVE DESCRIPTION: C. 30 m circular, c. 8 m deep, cliff walled doline with jungle in bottom. Tree root -ladder- gives access for locals. Electron ladder for Europeans. … Choked sink in one corner. Very long term dig (Jarratt, A R 2002.02.18 Mss; Krem Shynrang Thloo 2). CULTURAL HISTORY -- human use: The relatively small sand quarry combined with an apparently old, partly filled coal shaft suggested on 18th February 2002 that this hole was Obviously visited by locals (Jarratt, A R 2002.02.18 Mss; Krem Shynrang Thloo 2).Krem Matom) to plantation with small sand quarry and old, partly filled coal shaft. EXPLORATION HISTORY: The doline had not only been known since time immemorial to people familiar with the area but also triggered expedition cavers from abroad to conssider that it was Obviously visited by local people (Jarratt, A R 2002.02.18 Mss; Krem Shynrang Thloo 2). 2002.02.18: Anthony 'Tony' R Jarratt, Ruben Sheen and Ksan Kupar 'Ronnie' Mawlong visited the doline dubbed Shynrang Thloo 2 and read not only a GPS position with a simply ignored and presumably reasonable precision error but also explored (sic!) by entering, looking around, and finally even achieved to master the very act of exiting.
