Description
An unspecified cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions, unidentified orientation, unidentified characteristics) in a comparatively small doline (unidentified shape, unspecified dimensions) was said to give access to a relatively small pothole (0.6 m wide and 5 m deep), which has formed in a kind of sandy limestone and was found to be belling out to a cave chamber (5 m in diameter, no way on) with sand and sort of what was considered conglamerate (sic!) or, perhaps, something along the lines of a conglomerate (note 1). ETYMOLOGY: No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for a cave near Nongtalang, which Boyes, P W (2000.02.19 Mss: Leach hole 19/2/00) christened Leech hole (note 2) either in honour of a person who extorts profit from or sponges on others or, more likely, after an aquatic or terrestrial annelid worm with suckers at both ends. SITUATION 2000a: At an estimated distance of about 150 m west of where (without GPS position) the rack to Untren 1 (i.e. Krem –>Umtren) leaves the road from Nongtalang (note 3) to Jowai (N25°27': E92°12') (Boyes, P W 2000.02.19 Mss: Leach hole 19/2/00). SITUATION 2000b: At an estimated distance of about 150 m west a point (without GPS position) where a track to Untren 1 (see: Krem –>Umtren) leaves the road from Nongtalang to Jowai (Boyes, P W 2000.04.21 Mss: Leach hole 19/2/00 revised 21/4/00). SITUATION 2000c: In an inexplicable spatial relation to Krem –>Nonglyngrong and, according to the only recorded, unfortunately far from trustworthy GPS position (note 4), at a distance of 2.69 km in a direct line on a bearing of 56° (approximately north-east) from the Inspection Bungalow at Nongtalang.CAVE CLIMATE: Boyes, P W (2000.02.19 Mss: Leach hole) repeated in Boyes, P W (2000.04.21 Mss: Leach hole 19/2/00 revised 21/4/00) observed comparatively very warm air (no temperature mentioned), humid air (no relative humidity mentioned) and noticed a certain air current (air flow) in the hape of draught coming out of the hole at an unidentified time on 19th February 2000. CAVE LIFE: Boyes, P W noticed unspecified leeches (conf. Annelidae: Hirudinea).rack to Untren 1 (i.e. Krem –>Umtren) leaves the road from Nongtalang (note 3) to Jowai (N25°27': E92°12') (Boyes, P W 2000.02.19 Mss: Leach hole 19/2/00).
