Description
Undergrounds (dungeons, tahkhana) are situated at a dilapidated fort near Kandar (N18°07': E75°12'), which lies about »200 km [in a direct line south] from Aurangabad« (N19°53': E75°20'). ETYMOLOGY: In the Rig Veda, the Sanskrit term "kandara" is said to designate »cave; glen« (hindunet.org/hindu_history/sarasvati/dictionary> accessed 06.10.2005: # 1715). CAVE LIFE: GOPALAKRISHNA & CHOUDHARI (1977: 5) collected between 11 January 1964 and 07 May 1966 numeourous Fulvous Fruit bat (Chiroptera: Rousettus leschenaultii Desmarest 1820) from the undergrounds below the fort at Kandar.
