Location
Mutanda zone, Buzi district, Sofala province. GPS (WGS84) S 19°56'24,6" / E 34°08:39.9", ca. 70 m asl. Surveyed on 16 Aug. 1999 by Pedro Caetano, Artur Fernandes, Adriano Germano, Michael Laumanns and Jens Römer (BCRAGrade 4b). Length: Muchakaima 2: 161,00 m. Muchakaima 3: 12,00 m. Muchakaima 4: 12,00 m. The ensemble of caves has been mapped by the Portuguese project participants. However, maps were not drawn.
Description
Muchakaima No. 2 has a 10 m deep entrance pitch that leads into a chamber with continuations to the SW and E. The SW Section is partly narrow and hosts a large colony of Hipposideros commersoni vittatus (PETERS 1877). The E section has a spacious chamber. Both Muchakaima No. 3 and 4 are small potholes without further extensions. No conglomerate infillings are present in the cave.
