Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

A natural pool of water (a closed depression about 27 by 35 m wide) was not only understood to represent a relatively interesting tank (DIRECTOR … s.a., circa 2003) but also a natural water tank of rock (GUPTA & SHARMA s.a. circa 2004 ±2) and appears to expose the local karst water table: A cave diving site? SITUATION: DIRECTOR … (circa 2003 s.a.) places Rongsaljong Agal short of the –>Rongsobok Rongkol on … the northern side of Balpakram [note 1] in the Khasi Hills border but GUPTA & SHARMA (circa 2004 s.a.) place Rongsaljong-Agal … on the Khasi hills border. TANK DESCRIPTION 2003: Rongsaljong Agal … A very interesting tank that is 120 ft [36.6 m] long and 90 ft [27.4 m] wide. Interesting side of it is that the water here remains perpetually clear and transparent, also it remains at the same level throughout the year. It is surprising that heavy down pours of rain cannot raise the level or the scorching heat of summer reduce it (DIRECTOR … circa 2003 s.a.). TANK DESCRIPTION 2004: Ronsaljong-Agal … is a natural water tank of rock measuring about 120 x 90ft. The water in this tank is perpetually clear and transparent and remains at the same level throughout the year [note 2] (GUPTA & SHARMA circa 2004 s.a.). CULTURAL HISTORY: On the one-hand side, unidentified the Garos are said to have believed that it used to be the bathing ghat [note 3] of Bandi's wife Shore. Her bucket of water fossilized into stone remains in that place (DIRECTOR … circa 2003 s.a) but on the other to still believe that it is the bathing ghat of Bandis wife (GUPTA & SHARMA circa 2004 s.a.).A natural pool of water (a closed depression about 27 by 35 m wide) was not only understood to represent a relatively interesting tank (DIRECTOR … s.a., circa 2003) but also a natural water tank of rock (GUPTA & SHARMA s.a. circa 2004 ±2) and appears to expose the local karst water table: A cave diving site?
