A rock shelter which yielded a fossilised collection of bones of a burial complex was found (in about 1970) at Sarai Nahar Rai rock shelter somewhere near Allahabad (note 1). ARCHAEOLOGY: Bone samples from this alluvial deposit have been dated by radiocarbon methods to 10.345 (±110) years BP. The associated cultural remains consist of microlithic flakes and crude pottery, all assignable to the Late Stone Age (KENNEDY 1977: 102). The complete skull of one male adult specimen is described in a brief report in Nature.
