Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 01/05/2016

No autochthonous, indigenous or locally known name has been identified for a »cave in limestone« (note 1) which is said to lie (note 2) in an unidentified spatial relation to »Pherima« (Priphema), a village at about halfway on the road from Dimapur to Kohima. SITUATION: Priphema (»Pherima« Brooks 1999.01.30 personal communication) is indicated near N25°45': E093°58' on AMS sheet NG46-11 Kohima (U502 series, 1956 edition) in an area where the Pulebatze Wildlife Sanctuary is shown in the India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006: 47 E2) at about halfway on the 33 miles / 53 km long National Highway NH39 from Dimapur (N25°54': E093°44') on the Assam border generally south-west to Kohima (N25°40': E094°07'). IDENTITY: The only problem is that there is no limestone anywhere in this area, only the much famed –>Dzülekie, where »the stream flows through a deep and narrow gorge making it as if the stream has gone underground at places.«

NOTE 1: This »cave in limestone« (no name mentioned) is possibly identical with the cave near –>Dimapur or, perhaps, with the cave in the –>Langpangkong Range. NOTE 2: Simon J. Brooks 1999.01.30 personal communication with Ms. Agano Belho (Tourist Officer, Government of Nagaland Tourist Information Centre, Shakespear Sarani, Calcutta). NOTE 3: »Pherima« (Brooks 1999.01.30 personal communication) is indicated as »Priphema« (N25°45': E093°58' AMS sheet NG46-11 Kohima, U502 series, 1956 edition) in an area where the Pulebatze Wildlife Sanctuary is shown on the India Road Atlas (Eicher Goodearth 2006: 47 E2).
