Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 06/01/2018

What appears to represent a true tunnel cave, where one can see the insurgence from the resurgence and vice versa (Brian D. Kharpran Daly 2001.12.10 personal communication), consists either of a relatively long linear cave passage, a natural bridge / arch or possibly a very short through-cave with a stream (Jarratt 2002.02.09 Mss: Krem Umbyrsieh). ETYMOLOGY: The Khasi adjective ”byrsieh” means defiling and ”U Byrsieh” is the name of a kind of deity or god who presides over or superintends defilement (SINGH, N 1906: 19). SITUATION 2001: Kharpran Daly (2001.12.10 personal communication) places Krem Umbyrsieh somewhere in the vicinity of Mustoh (note 1). SITUATION 2002: Jarratt (2002.02.09 Mss: Krem Umbyrsieh) suggests this item is not visited and probably wanted to say it has not been visited by those few -nongkyndong- or persons from an out-of-the-way place (SINGH, N 1906: 54) that came down upon this area once in February 2002.What appears to represent a true tunnel cave, where one can see the insurgence from the resurgence and vice versa (Brian D.
