Description
The fauna of Amboni Cave 3 A was studied by a FRONTIER-team recently (Matthews et al. 1992) including netting of bats. Unfortunately the available report does not include a detailed list of zoological determinations. However, it is quite likely that the small bat species Coleura afra (Emballonuridae) has been found, which has a long known occurrence in the Amboni Caves (oral information obtained from Dr. D.Kock, Senckenberg-Museum, Frankfurt, Germany). A skeleton of this bat species was collected during the 2000 speleological project in Amboni Cave 5. The locais still uses Amboni Cave 3 A for spiritual purposes. There are several places (marked in the map with a signature for “pottery”) where offerings have been deposited, The whole walls of the show cave are covered with recent inscriptions and graffities, although it is signposted at the entrance that it is not allowed to do so.
