Description
Two painted rock shelters (Indian Archaeology: A Review [IAR] 1979-80 / 1983: 49). SITUATION: On the left bank of the river Dehar, 36 km south-east of Sagar [23°50'N: 78°45'E] (Indian Archaeology: A Review [IAR] 1979-80 / 1983: 49). CULTURAL HISTORY -- rock art: The paintings show scvenes of horse riders, elephant riders and soldiers fighting with swords and shields in white and red (Indian Archaeology: A Review [IAR] 1979-80 / 1983: 49). CAVE POTENTIAL: To the east and south-east of Saugor the infratrappean or Lameta limestone is largely developed. Calcareous inter-trappean bands with fossilized shells and plants also occur largely near Saugor (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1907-1909, 22: 137).
