Description
So-called »zones of leaching« (cave passages, karst conduits) with a vertical range of 1.3 m (borehole BH-18) and 0.5 m (borehole BH-8) discovered CHANDRAKAR & HARENDRANATH (1992: 169, section on page 170) in the course of geotechnical investigation for a bridge on the National Highway NH4A across the Kumbarjua creek. The otherwise inaccessible cave galleries occur in the top horizon of a fairly massive crystalline limestone (buried below clays and sands) at depths ranging from about 13 to more than 30 m below the stream bed. SITUATION: Somewhere in the vicinity of Banastarim (N15°29': E73°57'), a village about 16 km east-south-east of Panaji (Panjim N15°29': E73°50').
