Description
The »Thousand Cells« (Hazar Kothri) are »actually seven in number, hewn underground in such a way as to posit the existence of hundreds more, honeycombing porous laterite, an impression bosted by the existence of a subterranean passage nearly 7 ft [2 m] wide and at least 90 ft [27 m] long, ending at the moat, for a secret, safe and sudden escape« (WARD 1991 edited 1992: 226). SITUATION: On Bidar Fort in Bidar town N17°54': E77°33' (nima.mil/geonames accessed 16.11.2003) on AMS sheet NE43-12 Gulbarga.
