Location

LP0008, LP0009 and LP0010 are described by Hallett (1890) who descended the Mae Ping gorge en route from Chiang Mai to Bangkok in 1876. As the border apparently runs along the river these caves may be in Chiang Mai province. The area is now in Mae Ping National Park and the locations are approximate. This cave is noted on map by Hallett in 1876 high above the Mae Ping downstream from LP0008 and LP0009, about 15 km below the beginning of the gorge and about 43 km in a straight line from Hot. Hallet's description is "Loi Chang Hong is remarkable for its castellated appearance, three grand semicircular buttresses and one of smaller diameter rising 1200 to 1500 feet from the edge of the river. Near the top of the precipice is a great cave about 100 feet high. Great stalactites stand out and droop in clusters from their face." Martin Ellis - 28/03/2020
