Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 02/04/2016

The suspicious place name »Uder Dhunga« (literally: house stone, cave rock), a village with a lower secondary school, is indicated near (±250 m) N28°03'53”: E084°06'41” (unknown geodetic datum) on the Central Service Map 40 Kaski (1989 edition) but as »Uden Dunga« on the Central Service Map 38 Tanahun (1989 edition) at a spot about 5 km in a direct line approximately south-east from Kotre Bazar (note 1) and in the headwaters of one Syangdi Khola (note 2). ETYMOLOGY: »Uder« is reminiscent of the Gorkhali (Nepali) "odar" (also: otar), a house, home or shelter, and hence a cave, combined with "dhunga" (Nepali / Gorkhali) »rock, stone« (de.wikibooks.org/wiki/Nepali accessed 2010.11.14).
