Description
NOTE 1: The Khasi verb "rang" means »to cease to rain; to be fine (said of weather)« (SINGH, N 1906: 169) but "u 'rang" is a contraction of ”u shynrang” (SINGH, N 1906: 169) and signifies »a male; a pipe« (SINGH, N 1906: 201) whilst the adjective "ba shynrang has been translate as »brave; chivalrous; courageous« (SINGH, N 1920: 52, 69, 98). ”kêr” (Khasi, verb) »to surround; to enclose« as ”kér-kut” means »to surround completely; to erect a fort or stockade« and ”kêr-dam” means »to hedge round leaving no opening« (SINGH, N 1906: 24).
An unspecified cave called »Krem Rangker« is said to be situated somewhere in the "kyndong" or vicinity of one of the villages of –>Tuber (Kharpran Daly, B D 1997.03.13 Mss "25 caves located" item 7). ETYMOLOGY: The meaning and origin of the Syntang Khasi cave name »Krem Rangker« (Kharpran Daly, B D 1997.03.13 Mss) has not yet been discovered and may refer -- but this is mere guesswork -- to one (or several) »surrounded male« (note 1).
