The St. Mary's grotto at the Catholic church (built in 1892, French - Irish architecture, noted for stained glass windows from Belgium) at Pachmarhi is situated about halfway between the –>Pandava Caves and the seven way junction (note 1) Jaistambha / Jai Stambh (victory pillar) at –>Pachmarhi. The whitewashed shrine is characterised by a glass window (that doubles up as a door) in the top central part of a wall describing perhaps an eighth or a tenth of a circle. It is built from sandstone boulders and mortar, which encloses a small chamber (about 0.5 m wide, 0.8 m high, 0.4 m deep) housing a statue of St. Mary.
