A temple built in front of and inside a vertical rift (some 6 m high and deteriorating from 2 m in width) adjoining to a temple cave chamber (up to 6 m wide, 4 m high, 9 m long), both originating from gravitational mass dislocation of granite boulders. The natural cave is considerably modified by man (cement concrete and marble floors, steps, terraces and walls) and sacred to Nilkantheshwara (the -blue throated god- is an aspect of Shiva). SITUATION: Near the bottom of the south-western flank of Risheshwara Pahar, the prominent isolated hill (503 m asl) which lies less than a kilometre ESE of –>Nandia village. Marked with the symbol for temple on the Survey of India sheet 45-D/13.
