Description
A cave at Shankargarh classified PHILP (2002) not only as a forest cave but also as a cave complex (note 1) and possibly represents a rock shelter or a true cave. The site made it to the London Times when its rock art (paintings in red) became known: A row of (dancing) humans, men on horseback, and a tribe hunting bison with spears –themes and style known from neolithic to medieval rock art (note 2). History
EXPLORATION HISTORY: 2002: Unspecified villagers with unidentified names are said to have fetched Superintendent Vijay Kumar to save paintings endangered by labourers quarrying rock. A certain P.D. Tewari, lecturer in prehistoric archaeology at Lucknow University, visited later. Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Department planned to built a road to bring tourists (PHILP 2002).
