Location

Roughly 5 minutes by boat from harbour. Kelawar (Bats) Cave is located in the heart of Kilim mangrove swamps within the Kisap Forest Reserve. The cave was named as such because it supports hundreds of bats. It consists of two caves. Follow the pier and the stairs down into a 2 metres high, 4 metres wide opening with a to the right sloped roof. The cave has 4 entrances in two separate passages that link via a walkway. The western cave has a floor area of about 270 m sq with a low roof (1-3m) trending northeast. The second cave is bigger, having a floor area of about 750m sq, with roof reaching 10 metres high and trending north-northwest. Fauna: large colony of bats >2000 fruit bats and other smaller bats. Fossils: none.
