An unspecified cave entrance (unidentified shape, unidentified dimensions, unidentified orientation, unidentified characteristics) is said to give access to an unidentified and unspecified cave at a location with unknown whereabouts (Kharpran Daly, D D 1997.03.13 Mss: "[twentyfive] 25 caves located" item no. 12). ETYMOLOGY: Unknown. The origin and history of the cave name »Krem Wah Dika« (Kharpran Daly, D D 1997.03.13 Mss) has not yet been identified. It seems to refer to a "krem" or cave called after a "wah" or stream which itself is called after "[ki] "Dika" or [the] Twenty Simul [trees] (note 1). SITUATION: Unknown. Apparently on a stream called Wah Dika and in one way or another »near« the village of Mawkneng (note 2), which was said (Kharpran Daly, D D 1997.03.13 Mss) to lie at an unidentified location somewhere in the vicinity of Nongstoin (25°30'35”N: 91°16'05”E). CAVE POTENTIAL: Unknown. There are, however, several unidentified "caves" (or so) near Mawkneng, namely: Krem –>Lum Khongpliang (Kharpran Daly, B D 1997.03.13 Mss "25 caves located" item 11) Krem –>Maweit (Raphael Warjri, Shillong, 1998.02.09, personal communication) Krem –>Wah Dika (Kharpran Daly, B D 1997.03.13 Mss "25 caves located" item 12). Krem –>Weiklasup (Kharpran Daly, B D 1997.03.13 Mss "25 caves located" item 10).
NOTE 1: 'di (Khasi; cardinal number), short for: bdi, bydi (SINGH, N 1906: 17), twenty (SINGH, N 1906: 17, 66). ka 'ka (Khasi, noun), short for: ka kya, a simul tree (SINGH, N 1906: 10) or cotton tree and cotton silk tree, botanically: Bombacaceae: Bombax ceiba (BAZELY 1992: 28), Bombax malabaricum (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1907-1909) or Salamalia malabarica (?).NOTE 2: Mawkneng (Brian D. Kharpran Daly 1997.03.13 Mss; Raphael Warjri 1998.02.09 personal communication), literally: prominent rock, is neither shown on the Survey of India sheets 78-O/03 (1913), 78-O/04 (1912), 78-O/06 (1913), 78-O/07 (1913), 78-O/08 (1912) nor on AMS sheet NG46-09 Tura (U502 series, 1959 edition).
