Description

Herbert Daniel Gebauer - 04/07/2016

A solitary, north-west facing cave entrance (in one way or another 1.5 by 1 m wide), which lies at the base of a closed depression (collapse doline) without identified shape or dimensions, was understood to give access to braided cave passages, which eventually join, drain a seasonal stream from somewhere to elsewhere, and allow access to a walking sized cave gallery (3 m wide, 2 m high) leading to a breakdown where the cave continues in an unknown way. At this point, the the few known visitors have come to the end of their progress but somewhere in the known part of the cave are deposits of secondary calcite formations (flowstone speleothems). IDENTITY: The name of the nearby cave in –>Mawsiar on the way to Nongjri (Therria) sounds similar and therefore may be the same. ETYMOLOGY: The standard Khasi, War Khasi and Synteng Khasi noun "ka sier" (feminine) or "u sier" (masculine) and "i sier" (plural), binomial imitative ”sier ka skei” (SINGH, N 1920: 111) is the word for »a kind of deer« (SINGH, N 1906: 203; SINGH, N 1920: 111; BLAH, E 2007: 73) or »a doe« (SINGH, N 1920: 135), in Hindi "sambar" (SINGH, N 1906: 203) or "sambur" (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1907-1909, i: 236), in Urdu "jarau" and zoologically Cervidae: Cervulus unicolor (IMPERIAL GAZETTEER 1907-1909, i: 236).. SITUATION: According to the 1998 cave explorers, the cave entrance to this Krem Wah Sier lies not only in an unidentified setting at an unspecified location in an area without identified characteristics but also at a spot with fully unidentified spatial relations to unmistakable landmarks (note 1).
