Location
Mutanda zone, Buzi district, Sofala province. GPS (WGS84) S 19°53'49,3’’ / E 34°08'59.5°, ca. 85 m asl. Surveyed on 23 Aug. 1999 by Artur Fernandes, Michael Laumanns and Jens Römer (BCRA-Grade 4b). Length: 51,00 m. Vertical range: +3,00/-7,00 m
Description
At the bottom of the entrance doline a horizontal cave passage leads to the NW. At the beginning the height is at approximately 4 m and the ground is covered with boulder. However, a few meters inside the cave guano cover the floor. Approx. 50 m from the entrance the cave turns first to the right than to the left and the ceiling lowers to a crawl. Exploration was ceased here because of numerous insects in the bat guano and a rise of the air temperature from 27.2°C to 32°C in the crawl, caused by a colony of about 5.000 bats of the species Triaenops persicus afer (PETERS 1877). Besides that, various beetles, cave-crickets and small insects were observed. In the cave there are no signs of conglomerate fillings. Furthermore no calcite formations are present.
